Born in Puerto Rico, Karla is inspired by the nature and culture of the island. She took several courses of arts at Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, Liga de Arte de Puerto Rico, and Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico. In 1996, Karla became one of the youngest artisans to join the Puerto Rico Development Company Program certified as recycled paper art artisan. She was recognized and awarded by PRIDCO and Bacardi Corporation as Young Artisan of the Year 2008 at the last edition of the Annual Bacardi Fair in Puerto Rico. She also participated in several national and international arts and crafts fairs receiving three more awards, Best Exhibition in 2010, Best Environmental Art in 2011 and Rafael Hernández Reyes Award 2013 - Best Demonstration of Arts & Craft Workshop. Since 2012 she became an amateur photographer of nature and wildlife. In the art of photography she won six awards, in different kinds of nature photography contests, in Puerto Rico and United States.
